We all know about serial killers like Jack the Ripper and Charles Manson but there are some that are virtually unheard of. However, this does not mean that they weren’t as ruthless or heartless- just that they managed to remain in the shadows.
1. John Robinson
According to research, over 11 women have been linked to this serial killer- they are either missing or dead. He carried out these murders over a course of 16 years and made sure that some of them would never be found. Robinson had four children and was passionate about two things- murder and money.
2. Larry Eyler
Larry Eyler attacked his victims and killed them on highways which is why he was referred to as the Highway Killer. He would lure men towards secluded area, beat them up and murder them. His victims were almost always disemboweled. Eyler eventually confessed that he had killed 21 people.
3. Peter Kurten
Kurten killed young women every week during 1929. The bodies would be found horribly mutilated and slashed to death. He confused the police and made it seem like he was helping them find the bodies. This serial killer killed over 30 people but allegedly said that he would have liked to kill more simply because he enjoyed it.

These people were sentenced to death and were almost on their way to heaven or hell but got lucky and managed to live another day.
1. Elizabeth Proctor
Elizabeth Proctor was thought to be a witch in 1692 and was arrested. Even though her friends protested, she was sentenced to death. Elizabeth was pregnant at the time and gave birth to her baby in prison. The rope was placed around her neck and she fell through the trapdoor but did not die!
2. John Henry George Lee
John Henry George Lee was arrested because it was felt that he was involved in the murder of a woman named Emma Keyse. He was about to be hanged when the release on the trap door malfunctioned and he fell through it thrice but did not die.
3. William Duell
William Duell along with 4 other men was hanged after spending time in jail for raping and murdering a child in London. At the time, dead bodies of criminals were used for medical purposes. When William’s body was laid in the Surgeons’ Hall, a student realized that he was breathing!
4. Zoleykhah Kadkhoda
Zoleykhah Kadkhoda was arrested because she was having an affair even though she was married. It was declared that she was to be killed and that people were to throw stones at her till she died. However, the stoning was abruptly stopped and the woman was taken to the morgue where the officials realized that she was breathing.

Wenseslao Moguel was arrested after getting caught during the Mexican revolution. The officials were supposed to open fire at him and continue till he died. He was shot at 9 times but somehow managed to escape and live for a long time after.

This journey game to a halt when knocking was heard from within the coffin. She was taken out and lived for 40 more years!

Top 10 Mysterious Murders In Recent Years

Most criminals are caught either because they were not careful enough or because the authorities were too smart. However, the following murders have not been solved till date.
1. The Seewen MurdersThese murders took place in 1986 when five members of a particular family in Switzerland were killed. Even though the police suspects Carl Doser, no concrete evidence has been found as such. The gun shots were extremely accurate and most of the victims were shot through the head.
2. Bob CraneRobert Crane was a part of the successful sitcom called Hogan’s Heroes. He was loved by the audience but they did not know that he had been battling with sex addiction for years. He was found dead in 1978 and even though a man named Carpenter was connected with the crime, the murder remains quite a mystery till date.
3. Dian FosseyDian Fossey dedicated her life to stop the practice of poaching in Africa because of which she became quite famous. She was killed in 1985 and was found with a machete stuffed into her skull. Even though the staff members at the research center were arrested, nobody was prosecuted.
4. Julie WardJulia Ward was an avid wildlife photographer and was found dead in Kenya in 1988. When her body was found, it was charred and was buried in the reserve.
5. Amber HagermanAmber Hagerman was 10 years old when she was kidnapped and murdered. Terapon Adhahn was arrested in 2007 but he was let go because nothing solid was found. 9. Mass Murder in FinlandA mass murder took place at Lake Bodom in 1960 when two young men and two teenage girls were attacked with the same knife. Three of them died but Nils Gustafsson managed to walk away unscathed. A confession note was found in 1972 but investigation proved that he was not telling the truth. Interestingly, Nils was arrested a few years later as well.
10. Mollie Smith Mollie Smith was the first victim of a serial killer who called himself the Servant Girl Annihilator. His weapon of choice was usually an axe and even though several arrests were made, no evidence was found.
